Sexual assault
In the Family Guy episode "And Then There's Fraud", there is a running joke about Meg having done something that prohibits her from being allowed to wander alone. At the end of the episode, she severs her foot to escape her ankle monitor and runs into the woods.
In a discussion thread on Reddit, fans of the show speculate about the reason for Meg's house arrest. One theory is that it is related to a sexual crime accusation. In the episode "Untitled Griffin Family History", Meg asks a group of robbers to rape her, and when they refuse, disgusted by her appearance, she gets angry and insists that they have sex with her. They then file a sexual harassment lawsuit against her, which is ignored by her father, Peter. In another episode, "Dial Meg for Murder", Meg is dating a convict and ends up in prison herself. In "Barely Legal", Meg threatens to commit suicide when nobody at school will be her date to the prom.
In the episode "Seahorse Seashell Party", Meg stands up to the abuse she receives from her family and insults them, particularly criticising her father, Peter, and her mother, Lois, for their treatment of her. This results in Peter falling into a depression, and Meg eventually apologises, realising that her role in the family is to act as a "lightning rod" that absorbs the family's dysfunction.

Her family's abuse
Meg Griffin is the eldest child of Peter and Lois Griffin and the sister of Chris and Stewie Griffin. She is the family's scapegoat and is often bullied, belittled, ridiculed, and ignored by her family. Out of all the family members, her father Peter abuses her the most. Peter has been shown to physically and emotionally abuse Meg, such as shoving her face into his bottom and then farting on it, trapping her in a car with his fart, and giving her a slow fart in the face as a parting gift. Peter also berates Meg, hits her, and even shoots her. He also shows a great deal of animosity towards her, even going so far as to say that if they could only save two family members, they would leave Meg.
Lois, Meg's mother, also constantly puts Meg down while boosting her own ego. Lois is usually of little to no help to Meg when she is abused by others, and her attitude is more negligent or apathetic than the more overt and direct abuse given by Peter. Lois has also been cruel and dismissive towards Meg, such as forcing her to practice the piano with an ankle bracelet attached to an iron ball and forcibly restraining her when she tried to ask Peter for help. She has also made jokes at Meg's expense and has shown sympathy for her only occasionally.
Meg's younger brother, Chris, has a more typical brother-sister relationship with her, and he has even threatened to quit his job if his boss didn't rehire Meg. However, he has also torn his hair out in frustration with her and has avoided her company. Stewie, Meg's other younger brother, enjoys taunting Meg about her supposed "ugliness", virginity, and inability to keep a boyfriend. However, he will go to lengths to rescue her when she is in danger, and they have conspired together to embarrass Brian.
Brian, the family dog, does not seem to join in the others' frequent "Meg-bashing", although he is prone to ignoring her and has insulted her on occasion. However, he has shown that he truly cares for her and has helped her come to her senses when she was released from prison.

Her unpopularity
Meg Griffin is a fictional character in the animated television series Family Guy. She is the eldest child of Peter and Lois Griffin and the older sister of Stewie and Chris Griffin. She is also the family's scapegoat, receiving the least of their attention and tolerating the brunt of their abuse.
Meg is a self-conscious and insecure adolescent girl. She is treated unfairly and abused by various people and has numerous insecurities that prompt her to try to be part of the "in-crowd". However, this only results in her getting rebuffed by the many bullies of this circle, particularly Connie D'Amico, the head cheerleader of the local high school, James Woods Regional High School.
Meg is usually the butt of Peter's jokes due to her unpopularity and "ugliness". Peter resorts to outrageous stunts and names. She is so unpopular at school that one student fires a nail gun into his own abdomen twice to avoid a date with her, and then in a later episode, another student shoots his own brother as an excuse not to go to a dance with her the following night. In "Don't Make Me Over", a saleswoman ends up pouring gasoline on herself, lighting a match, catching fire, and then jumping out of a window after looking at Meg in a pair of jeans.
Meg desperately tries to be part of the cool crowd, but is usually coldy rebuffed. Because of her eagerness for acceptance, she has been recruited "unknowingly" into a suicidal religious cult, and later recruited again unwittingly into her school's Lesbian Alliance. However, Meg does have a moderate number of friends, who are often seen with her during occasions such as her slumber parties and gossiping about boys. In later episodes, these girls are characterized as being highly unpopular and dateless, much like Meg.
Meg is so unpopular that she is mistaken for a boy on several occasions. In "Untitled Griffin Family History", she is held hostage by three burglars who mistake her for a boy. Later in that episode, she asks one of the robbers if they were going to "have their way" with her. They refuse, disgusted by her appearance, and she gets angry, shouting at them to have sex with her and insisting that she was 'pretty'. They then file a sexual harassment suit against her, which went ignored by Peter, who thought she was going to a dance, leading to her arrest.
Meg's unpopularity is also due to her plain appearance and personality. In "Don't Make Me Over", Lois is looking for new clothes for Meg, but with no luck. However, she is sought by nerd Neil Goldman. Perverted neighbour Glenn Quagmire has also shown an interest in her, mostly due to his very low standards.

Her love life
Meg Griffin's love life has been nothing short of complicated. She has been romantically involved with several men and women, including Jimmy Fallon, Jerome the bartender, a jailhouse prisoner, a nudist, her female classmate Sarah, and even the family dog, Brian.
Meg's first crush was on Kevin Swanson, Joe Swanson's son, but he died in Iraq. She also briefly dated Joe Swanson himself in the episode "The Hand That Rocks the Wheelchair". However, Peter and Lois intervened to prevent her from dating him. In the episode "Prick Up Your Ears", she dated a boy named Doug, but he broke up with her when he saw her naked.
Meg's obsession with men who show her any kindness or affection is evident in her relationships with the Griffin's friend Glenn Quagmire and the family's neighbour Joe Swanson. Quagmire, who is nearly three times her age, has shown a repeated interest in Meg due to his very low standards. In the episode "Meg and Quagmire", Peter goes out of his way to prevent Quagmire from having sex with her.
Meg has also shown hints of being bisexual or a lesbian. In the episode "Brian Sings and Swings", she joins a lesbian alliance group at school and pretends to be a lesbian to fit in. In "Stew-Roids", she asks Connie DiMico if she can think about her in the tub, and in "Dial Meg for Murder", she tongue-kisses Connie after knocking her unconscious.
Meg's most popular suitor is probably Neil Goldman, the homely AV nerd who is infatuated with her in the first few seasons of the show. However, she has also been involved with various other men, including Mayor Adam West, Michael Milano, Anthony, and Luke, a convict she dated while in prison herself.
Despite her many relationships, Meg is often portrayed as chronically incapable of finding a boyfriend and is the most unpopular kid in high school. Her love life is further complicated by her possessive behaviour, such as kidnapping Brian and detaining Bonnie Swanson at the airport by planting a gun in her purse.
