Lorex's wire-free cameras are a convenient way to secure your home or business without the hassle of cables. The Lorex Cirrus app allows you to set up push notifications on your phone when your camera detects motion, video loss, or low battery. To enable these notifications, you must first ensure that your devices have push notifications enabled and that motion detection is configured. You can then launch the Lorex Cirrus app, navigate to the notifications settings, and enable push notifications for a specific device. Once enabled, you can further customise the notification settings, including low battery notifications, which are always enabled by default.

Lorex Cirrus app push notifications

The Lorex Cirrus app allows you to set push notifications for your 4K NVR & Battery-Operated Camera system (L8559 Series). This means you can receive alerts on your phone when your cameras detect motion, video loss, or low battery.

To enable push notifications, open the Lorex Cirrus app and tap the menu icon, then tap 'Notifications'. You can then configure the push notification settings and enable them for a specific device. Once enabled, tap the settings icon to adjust the following:

• Storage notification (always enabled by default)
• Low Battery notification (always enabled by default)
• Motion detection notification: Enable/disable notifications for each channel
• Person detection notification: Enable/disable notifications for each channel
• Notification Schedule: Configure when you want notifications enabled

To disable push notifications, open the Lorex Cirrus app and tap to configure the push notifications settings. Then, disable them for a specific device.

Low battery notifications are always enabled by default

The Lorex Cirrus app also allows you to set up push notifications for motion detection and video loss. To enable these notifications, you must ensure that your devices have push notifications enabled and that motion detection is configured.

Motion detection notifications

Lorex security cameras and systems feature standard motion detection, advanced motion detection, smart motion detection, and smart motion detection plus. Here is a breakdown of the different types of motion detection notifications:

Standard Motion Detection:

Standard motion detection systems will pick up on all types of movement, regardless of whether it is a person, vehicle, animal, or object. Users can customise motion detection zones through their recorder or the corresponding app, with specific zones, sensitivity, and thresholds. For example, you can set the camera to only notify you of motion in certain areas, and to only notify you if the motion crosses a certain threshold of activity.

PIR Motion Detection:

PIR, or Passive Infrared, motion detection sensors are designed to detect moving heat signatures. This means they will pick up on things that emit a lot of heat, such as cars, people, and animals.

Advanced Motion Detection:

Advanced motion detection will only detect a person or vehicle, reducing the number of unwanted motion alerts caused by animals or inanimate objects.

Smart Motion Detection:

Smart motion detection can distinguish movement between people and vehicles while providing separate alerts for both.

Smart Motion Detection Plus:

Smart Motion Detection Plus allows you to choose between smart motion detection (person and vehicle detection) or face detection. Face detection will only notify you of motion events when a face has been detected, preventing notifications from people or vehicles simply passing by.

Person Detection:

Person detection will only detect motion generated by a person and send an instant notification to your smartphone through the Lorex App.

Person detection notifications

Lorex security cameras and systems feature motion detection, with some also offering advanced motion detection, smart motion detection, or person detection. Person detection will only detect motion generated by a person and send an instant notification to your smartphone through the Lorex App.

To enable Person Detection, launch the Lorex App, tap Settings, tap Detection Settings, turn on Motion Detection, and then turn on Person Detection. You can also enable or disable Person Detection by launching the Lorex Home app, tapping Settings, tapping Detection Settings, toggling the Motion Detection button to On, tapping Smart Detection, and then toggling the Person Detection button to On or Off.

You can also set scheduled notifications in the Lorex app by tapping above the camera's thumbnail and adjusting the notification settings as needed. You can also enable/disable motion detection and smart motion detection, as well as create Motion Zones™ to customize your camera's motion detection region and reduce false alerts.

The Lorex 2K HD Smart Deterrence Camera (U471AA) also has specific guidelines for optimal accuracy for person detection. When mounting the camera on a wall (indoors or outdoors), the optimal distance is 6.5-32ft (2-10m) from the camera, with the camera angled around 15°-30° down from the level position and installed between 7-10 ft (2-3m) off the ground. When placing the camera on a shelf, the optimal distance is 6.5-32ft (2-10m) from the camera, with the camera placed on a flat surface that does not obstruct the camera's field of view, and at a height of 4.5-6.5ft (1.5-2m) off the ground.

Notification schedule

The Lorex Cirrus app allows you to configure a notification schedule, which determines when you want notifications to be enabled or disabled. This can be done by following these steps:

• Launch the Lorex Cirrus app.
• Tap the menu icon, then tap "Notifications".
• Tap to configure the push notifications settings.
• Tap the settings icon.
• Tap "Notification Schedule" and configure when you want notifications to be enabled.

To disable push notifications for a specific device, you can follow the same steps but instead tap to disable push notifications for that device on the push notifications settings screen.
